Drivers must comply with the following North Dakota insurance requirements:
- A $25,000 minimum bodily injury liability per injured individual
- A maximum of $50,000 per accident
- A $25,000 minimum property damage liability
- A $30,000 personal injury protection coverage
- A $25,000 uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage per individual up to a maximum of $50,000 per accident resulting in bodily harm and caused by the underinsured and/or uninsured driver
These basic North Dakota insurance requirements are also dubbed the 25/50/25 coverage.
A North Dakota insurance company is allowed to reject a prospective member on the basis of his medical status and other criteria Nevertheless, residents who are ineligible for medical coverage may qualify for health plans offered by the Comprehensive Health Association of North Dakota (CHAND). There are restrictions on the extent to which health insurance rates can vary due to gender and age. Individual plans may consider as "pre-existing" any condition for which the individual obtained diagnosis, medical advice, treatment or care in the 6-month period preceding individual coverage. The exclusion period, however, may not exceed 12 months.
